Thanks to Lhasa Dadong Village Comprehensive Targeted Poverty Alleviation Tourism Development Project, Dadong Village has been acclaimed as “The First Tourism Village of Tibetan Folk Culture”. The village is close to the second exit (the Dadong Exit) of the outbound direction of Lhasa’s airport expressway, 13 km from Liuwu New District,. The planned area for the project covers 5.6 square kilometers. While maintaining traditional tourism elements, we add special tourist experience facilities such as a camping site, a travel-by-car club, a ski area, a photography club, a wedding photography club, hence the formation of a new tourism model that creates harmony between the present and history. The development and operation of the project have facilitated Dadong’s industrial development and the upgrading of its economic structure in a comprehensive way,and protected, inherited and promoted the local folk culture and helped the local people fight against poverty for a moderately well-off life.
Dadong Village has a long history, a rich culture, simple Tibetan folk customs, topographical diversity, masses of water, luxuriant vegetation, high oxygen levels. Moreover, Dadong Village has two ancient temples that are nearly a thousand years old. One of them is Nimatang Temple. Once the place where the first generation of grand Tibetan Medicine masters studied the Medicine, it makes plenty of Tibetan medicinal substances and remains the only temple in Tibet that mainly enshrines Bhaiṣajyaguru ("King of Medicine Master and Lapis Lazuli Light", commonly known as the Medicine Buddha). Deep inside Dadong Village lie the relics of the aristocratic estate where Tsangyang Gyatso lived over 300 years ago. Legend has it that he conducted his spiritual exercise there for years and left numerous romantic poems like On the Top of the East Mountain. Dadong Village has Tibetan specialties such as unique local yoghurt, Tibetan eared pheasants, yak milk and meat, tsampa, highland barley alcohols, peach and walnut trees that are thousands of years old and many precious Tibetan herbs. They are treasures bestowed by the Heaven on visitors to Dadong.
Dadong Village is a good example of the upgrading of cultural industries with rural characteristics and also a major achievement of the full implementation of the “Targeted Poverty Alleviation for Moderate Prosperity” policy. To date, Dadong Village has earned multiple honors: “China’s Beautiful Village for Leisure·Historic Town”, “Demonstration Village for China’s Rural Tourism Enterprise”, “China’s 7th Group of Famous Historic & Cultural Towns and Villages”, “2016 Exemplary Beautiful and Livable Village”, “2017 Demonstration Village for Rural Living Conditions Improvement and for Beautiful Village Initiative” etc.
