Adjacent to the Donghe River, Xichang•Jianchang Ancient Town Historic District Protection and Improvement Project is located in the central area of Xichang. The layout of this fan-shaped ancient town is typical of the style of Ming and Qing Dynasties. With its restored rampart being the longest in Sichuan Province, it is by far the best preserved ancient town in Xichang. Based on Jianchang ancient town, the project sets out to offer the leisure culture experience that promotes art and passes on culture. It features performing arts, art & culture, wonderful food, leisure activities, boutique courtyards, rampart tours, etc. The first phase has a planned area of 102 Chinese mu (68,000 square meters) with a construction area of 42,000 square meters. Its total investment is 800 million yuan. It focuses on “a Wall, a Street, a Theatre and a Museum”. The project’s overall layout is shaped by nine streets and eighteen alleys. Its completion will form a new cultural tourism pattern which enables a dialogue between culture and nature: looking up, one sees the ancient town revive; looking down, he sees Qionghai Lake shine.
