On the evening of October 31, the sixth season of the large-scale Tibetan culture epic drama "Princess Wencheng" ended successfully at the foot of Baoping Mountain in Lhasa, and presented the grandest audio-visual feast of the year to nearly an audience of nearly 4,000. This epic drama, produced and operated by a Chengdunese cultural company, has been performed over a thousand times since its debut in August, 2013. The reporter also learned that to extend the success of "Princess Wencheng", the historical drama "Princess Jincheng", produced by the company and directed by the famous young director Shao Zehui, is being vigorously rehearsed for next year’s premiere.

 


Since 2013, a drama that revives the memory of Princess Wencheng’s marriage in distant Tibet has been performed in Cijuelin, a village located opposite the Potala Palace in Lhasa. This is the large-scale outdoor epic drama "Princess Wencheng" - currently the only outdoor show performed on the Roof of the World. There are more than 800 cast members in the drama, 95% of which are farmers and herdsmen living in Cijuelin Village. Performed from April to October each year, this drama is well received by millions of visitors around the world.

 

 


In 2018, the sixth season of "Princess Wencheng" has been upgraded in all aspects, including lighting, stage, props and plot: cutting-edge technology has been applied to the lighting to take the visual excitement to a whole new level; more classic Tibetan cultural features have been incorporated into the set and props to let Tibetan culture fully exude its charm; the choreography, theatrical costumes and makeup further improved; the plot has got increasingly coherent and refined. “The statistics of the sixth season of ‘Princess Wencheng’ have reached a new high. The drama itself grossed around 150,480,600 yuan at the box office. The performances and the supporting tourism facilities received 500,000 tourists and generated nearly 200 million yuan in revenue. Since its debut in August 2013, the show has been performed over a thousand times. Together with its related facilities, it has, in total, received over 2.1 million visitors and yielded 770 million yuan in revenue.” said a person in charge, from the Chengdunese company that produces and runs the drama.
