Lhasa Daily: The 8th Season of the Large-scale Tibetan Culture Epic Drama “Princess Wencheng” Opened

The first performance of the 8th season of the large-scale Tibetan culture epic drama “Princess Wencheng”.

On the evening of June 1st, the large-scale Tibetan culture epic drama “Princess Wencheng”, the epitome of Tibet’s cultural tourism, opened its 8th season. As the actors sang and danced under the starry sky of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, a dozen forms of intangible cultural heritage were also presented on the stage. They interpreted in a striking way an epic that have been passed down for centuries by the Han and Tibetan people.

Before the performance began, our correspondent went up Wencheng Avenue and saw a reviving Cijuelin Tibetan-style Street. To deliver a safer and more comfortable theater experience, "Princess Wencheng" theater adopted strict measures against COVID-19. They included giving out masks, taking temperature, cleaning, disinfection, checking the Health Code, etc.

As a tribute to those who fight against the pandemic on the front line, medical workers and policemen were invited to watch this performance and given privileges like the right to watch the show for free in a whole year. The number of audience was strictly limited. Only 30% of the seating could be taken by the audience who sat at safe distances from one another. The return of Princess Wencheng gave further impetus to the recovery of cultural tourism on the plateau.
